Alanya: "Sunday Morning" (Feature/Interview)
What is the most important thing you want your fans to know about you? The most important thing I want potential fans to know is that everything I create comes from a place of real honesty. Whether it’s the lyrics I write, the way I sing them, or how I show up as a person — I always strive to stay rooted in authenticity. My music is my journal, my prayer, my safe space, and I hope it becomes that for others too. I don’t believe in the idea of sole perfection, I believe in truth, in vulnerability, and in art that reflects the soul behind it.
What is your recording process like for this song? It started as a quiet voice note in my phone after writing the lyrics, just me humming into the Memos app, trying to figure out which of my songs felt most like me and could represent my first step into the world as an artist. Once I chose the one, I layered in harmonies and some raw adlibs for the demo, really letting the emotion guide me. From there, the process became more refined, which followed by working in the studio. By the time I laid down the final vocals, I knew I had something that felt personal, but also like it could speak to someone else’s story.
What do you want your audience to feel when they listen to your music? I want people to feel seen. I want them to hear a lyric or a melody and think, "Wait, that's what I’ve felt too." I hope my songs feel like a mirror and a hug all at once, being an essence of symbolism, intentional, and honest. Music has always helped me process life, and I want my art to do the same for others. If it can comfort, challenge, or inspire even one person to reflect or heal, then I’ve done my job.
How would you describe your genre and sound? I’d say my sound lives somewhere between R&B and Soul and is guided by storytelling. There’s definitely a gospel influence that shows up now and then, too, in the way I approach harmony and build emotion. Inspired by the sounds of Lauryn Hill and India.Arie. It’s still evolving, but that’s what excites me most.
What are your goals and aspirations for 2025? In 2025, my biggest goal is to embrace every opportunity that aligns with my growth and spirit as an artist. I want to continue making music that feels real and share it with people who are truly interested in receiving it. I’m aiming to release another single before the end of the year, and maybe even start building towards a body of work. There’s so much more I’m working on behind the scenes.
